Daji was the last favored concubine of King Zhou of Shang and was hailed as an unparalleled demon queen. She was born into a tribe called Su and has shown extraordinary beauty and intelligence since childhood. She was loved by her tribe and received special attention from the tribal leader. A female official with high cultural literacy was sent to focus on training her, and she was regarded as a potential bride for her eldest son. By the age of ten, she had already revealed her graceful figure and captivating appearance, thus attracting much attention and arousing envy from many people.
One day, Daji was playing at the foot of the mountain when she suddenly encountered a thunderstorm. She hurriedly searched for a place to take shelter from the rain, only to see that lightning seemed to be chasing an animal. Upon closer inspection, she discovered that it was a red fox with nine tails. Although she felt panic in her heart, she heard a faint female voice from under her skirt pleading for help. Despite the uncontrollable fear in her heart, Daji’s kindness drove her to choose not to move. Lightning crackled near her, but it never hurt her. After the rain stopped, Daji found that the fox had collapsed on the ground, covered in scars. So she treated the fox’s wound and brought it home, preparing food for it. The next day, the fox woke up and told Daji that it was originally a nine tailed red fox from Kunlun Mountain. It almost died due to a failed tribulation, and Daji saved it. Therefore, it decided to repay Daji’s kindness.
However, the Nine Tailed Red Fox lost a significant amount of its Daoist lineage due to its failed tribulation, and its heart was filled with resentment. When King Zhou of Shang decided to conquer the Su tribe, the Nine Tailed Red Fox saw Daji’s opportunity as a queen. It transformed into Daji and used her identity to persecute the people and those in the court. Such behaviors have left a negative image of the Nine Tailed Red Fox in the minds of the public. Jiang Ziya, as a Taoist who has been practicing for many years, learned about the damage caused by the Nine Tailed Red Fox. He was puzzled by the actions of the Nine Tailed Red Fox and eventually uncovered the secret behind its impersonation of Daji.
He traced the whereabouts of the Nine Tailed Red Fox and pursued it to the ancient tomb, ultimately successfully eliminating the Nine Tailed Red Fox, her fox companions, and the Pipa Spirit. Jiang Ziya later became a strategist for the Marquis of Xibo and assisted him in establishing the Great Zhou Dynasty. His wisdom and courage enabled him to successfully escape the trap of the Nine Tailed Red Fox and ultimately achieve victory. In the end, the Nine Tailed Red Fox was fatally punished for its delusions and cruel behavior.
